The "My Housing Issue" Gateway is a free website created by the TDS Charitable Foundation to help private and social tenants solve housing problems.

Are you a tenant experiencing any of the following issues?

  • Repairs or maintenance (e.g. mould, heating issues, plumbing issues, damage)

  • Deposit issues (e.g. landlord refusing to return deposit)

  • Eviction (e.g. landlord threatening eviction)

  • Antisocial behaviour (e.g. problems with neighbours)

  • Issues with rent (e.g. rent increases)

  • Poor communication / customer service (from landlord, letting agents, council or

    housing association)

  • Tenant fees (e.g. unfair fees, holding deposits)

  • Harassment from landlord

Have you raised these issues with your landlord or letting agent and failed to get the response you were hoping for?

If so, the FREE interactive My Housing Issue Gateway can help you to find out where to go next to get the help you need to get your problem resolved.

The Gateway can help you:

  • Get to know your rights – Access easy-to-understand information on what the law says about your situation

  • Take next steps – Generate personalised action plans and letter templates that can help you fix the issue

  • Understand who can help – Find out where to go next for free help to get your problem sorted

Why is the Gateway needed?

The current system is confusing

There are many places to go for help, like councils, courts, ombudsman schemes, and more. This can make it hard to know where to start.

Research shows many tenants don’t know where to go

If you’re not sure of your rights or where to turn for help, you’re not the only one.

Tenants told us they found online information overwhelming or incorrect. Some advice agencies (such as councils or MPs’ offices) often gave generic advice where there were more suitable routes available – this can waste your time.

As a result, issues often remain unresolved.

Tenants need support

Many tenants don’t understand their options or how to navigate the system. The Gateway makes this process simpler and easier.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing a housing problem, visit the "My Housing Issue" Gateway website.
